“What kind of world are we leaving for our kids?”
– My grandfather, father, mother, and probably every parent and grandparent for several generations…
G.K. Chesterson (1874 – 1936), the English writer and theologian, was asked over a hundred years ago, “What is wrong with the world today?”
“I am,” he reportedly replied. If there had been a mic, he could have dropped it.
Grandpa Stark was worried about what kind of world he was leaving for my parents.
My parents were worried about what kind of world they were leaving for us.
Today, when I look around, I realize how amazingly good we have it and how fragile that goodness is, and I wonder about what kind of world we’re leaving for The Three.
If all we can control is what we do next, and if we take G.K.’s view — we can start making it a better world, one next thing at a time.
All change is incremental — and we owe it to ourselves (and our kids!) to do our part.
