“A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week.”
- General George S. Patton (1885 – 1945), World War II legendary military leader – note The Few Good Men series is delayed one day and condensed into two.
I’m a big Patton fan, which is no surprise to anyone who’s read more than a dozen Diffs over the years, and today, I am reminded of the value of time.
On Tuesday, I spent the day with The Youngest, who is already an adult. We went to the Zoo (Omaha), a French restaurant, and two (not one, but two) ice cream stores, and we spent five hours in the car together. It was as good a day as a guy could spend. I wish we’d done it sooner.
At work, what is it we wish we’d have done sooner? Yesterday? Last quarter? Why not do it, now? Even if we don’t “violently execute” that thing we’ve been planning, let “initiative” be our guide.
