- “Caught up in a whirlwind, can’t catch my breath, Knee deep in hot water, broke out in cold sweat
Can’t catch a turtle, in this rat race, Feels like I’m losing, at a breakneck pace
Afraid of my own shadow, in the face of grace, Heart full of darkness, spotlight on my face
There was love all around me, but I was looking for revenge, Thank God it never found me, would have been the end
Walkin’ the tight rope, steppin on my friends, Walkin’ the tight rope, was a shame and a sin
Walkin’ the tight rope, between wrong and right, Walkin’ the tight rope, both day and night.”
– Lyric from “Tightrope” by Stevie Ray Vaughan
Oh, the Stevie Ray stories… And the Jimmy stories. I’m sort of a big Vaughan Brothers fan…
But I digress….where was I? Oh, yes, the tightrope.
We all have a few tightropes around us, tempting us to look for revenge, step on our friends, choose wrong or right. Yet the choice is almost never all that difficult. The tightrope, I’ve found, tends to be next to, intersecting or criss-crossing the 5-foot-wide paved path we are on, and could stay on should we choose to do so.
If it feels like we’re losing at a breakneck pace, look left, look right and then step off the tightrope on to the relative safety of the path we know is right.
