“You are the average of the five people with which you spend the most time.”
– I heard it / read it somewhere this week and can’t, for the life of me, recall where…
But, I dig it.
We’ve struggled with this conundrum for years. There are people that we genuinely love, miss, enjoy whenever, wherever we see them. Yet we see them too rarely.
On Friday mornings, I get to spend time with four exemplary Brothers in Faith. Every night, I hit the pillow next to an exceptional woman, wife and mother. The Three Who Will Not Be Tamed — I’d be better served to get them more in to my “five.”
It sounds harsh, but I wonder if we’d look at our calendar every day before we spent time with those that are life sucks, value drains or negative energy infusers — and cancelled those meetings, well, how much more time would that leave us for our five people. If, at the end of each day, we’d look back and make a note to not re-convene with the aforementioned sucks, drains and infusers — that frees up future time for our five people.
The company we keep matters. It just does. And, it’s almost completely within our control.
I dig it.

Most people attribute the quote to Jim Rohn. It’s a good one!
