“Thanksgiving Day is a jewel, to set in the hearts of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day and leave out the gratitude.”
– E. P. Powell, American author
Today is the third most significant day on my calendar — #1 if you don’t count the ones with religious meaning.
Thankfulness is a rare commodity in a world that seems to reward whining. Yet there is much for which we can be thankful. So what to do?
Well, saying “thank you” is a wonderful gesture, but giving thanks, well now we’ve brought a much more powerful verb in to play. Actions speak louder than words, it’s been said, and the act of giving thanks is a great place to start.
Later today, after stuffing and roasting up my 24-pound bird, I’ll look around the table in our warm and safe home and I’ll see three magnificent kids, a beautiful and strong wife, close friends and their families. On my heart will be family and friends who, while not at our table, fill up my thankful tank. Truly blessed, I hope and pray that the gratitude comes easily and that I actively give thanks.
Happy Thanksgiving.
The Daily Difference will return on Monday.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and the whole Heston family!

There are 86,400 seconds in a 24 hour day. It takes two seconds to say thank you. Pretty simple math and pretty simple phrase.
