“We could put more thought into this. The problem is it would still be us doing the thinking.”

It’s not always about thinking longer or harder.
It’s often about thinking differently.
And that’s really hard to do if the same people are doing all the thinking. Or talking.
In managing our health, we’re encouraged to get a second opinion. In procurement, we’re encouraged to get multiple quotes. So why, on the stuff that matters the most in our businesses, are we so reticent to seek outside input?
Some executives see it as a sign of weakness, either in themselves or in their teams. Some directors resist an investment in outside expertise, thinking, “Well, what are we paying our managers for?”
The answer is, you’re paying your managers to take care of your clients, your investment and the future of your business. And if the problem is the same people are doing all the thinking, or talking, shame on you if you don’t seek another brain or voice to increase the likelihood of successful outcomes.
P.S. This is the type of thing The Heston Group does — we change the conversation and get you focused on the important stuff. The right thing. The right way. At the right time. Just sayin’…
