“This, gentlemen, is a football…”
– Vince Lombardi, legendary coach of the 13-time World Champion Green Bay Packers
Every season, this is how Vince would open camp.
It’s how we ought to “open camp” every day in our offices, too.
It’s not as complex as we want to make it. It’s not as difficult as we want to believe it is. When we focus on the few, critical basics, it becomes simpler, less taxing and we get more done.
67 things on your to-do list? Make a “to-don’t” list of about 60 of those items. Then, focus relentlessly on the seven, or the three, or — better yet — the ONE thing you have to get done today, and then move on to #2, then the next, and the next. When you run out of day. Stop. Rest. Start over tomorrow.
It’s a football. It’s a contract. It’s a presentation. It’s a negotiation. It’s a performance review. It’s a letter to write or a phone call to make.
It’s that simple.
