Over-simplification isn’t any better than layering on unnecessary complexity.
The key is to get to the truth, because the truth is almost always pretty simple. And remember, the facts don’t always (often?) equal the truth. Facts used without the context of the simplistic truth feed politics, ambiguity and dumbing-it down.
Politics is a complexity feeder. Ambiguity is a complexity feeder. Dumbing it down too far means we miss something important, and that creates unnecessary complexity, too.
The truth is almost always simple, and the truth is also a simplicity-provider.
As simple as possible. Just not simpler than that…
