“Everyone has a right to be stupid. Some people just abuse the privilege.”
– Unattributed, but I can hear Dad saying something similar
Seems some animal rights folks are pursuing legislation to make it illegal to use dogs for hunting. Not a typo. They want to create a law making it illegal to use hunting dogs to hunt.
I’m not kidding.
We own the world’s largest Labradoodle. By the way, the American Kennel Club doesn’t even recognize that as a breed, but Labrador Retrievers and Standard Poodles were both originally bred as hunters. So, while he can’t ever win the Westminster Dog Show, if you were to watch him work a field (and I don’t even hunt any more — I mean he just “hunts” every time he is off the leash!) you’d know that God put him on this planet to find pheasants or quail or doves or something that I’m supposed to shoot, and ultimately eat.
I remember Rufus, my old Blue Tick mix hound dog — picking up a raccoon scent and, “Boom, off he went!”
Even Jake, my Springer Spaniel, who was a little slower to learn — once he got it, it was an absolute joy to watch. Him. Hunt.
Ever watch a singer, and just know that God put them here to sing?
Ever watch an artist, or see one of their paintings, and just know that God put them here to paint?
Ever watch a mason, or see the brick / stone work they produced, and just know that God put them here to be a mason?
I wonder if anyone ever watched someone suggest that we ought to create a law making it illegal to use hunting dogs to hunt and just know that God put them here to make the rest of us feel smarter?

A sinner can be reformed, but stupid is forever!
The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.
Never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
If it’s stupid but works it isn’t stupid.
Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.
Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are more stupid than that.
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe. Albert Einstein
