“Did the guy who coined the term “one-hit wonder” come up with any other phrases?”
– Indiana Beagle, creation of “The Wizard of Ads,” Roy H. Williams and featured in The Monday Morning Memo
Ever heard of an overnight success that was really an overnight success?
Me neither.
If someone passed a law that I could only keep two subscriptions, Seth Godin’s blog would be one. Roy H. Williams’ Monday Morning Memo would be the other. Every time they post, Seth and Roy get their audiences one step closer to a breakthrough. Every time they frame a topic, an extra gear is available for those willing to shift their minds. Every time they put something out there, ideas are born. And ideas are the currency of difference makers. Seth and Roy are idea fountains. But not in a “look, another great idea!” sort of way.
Ideas that move the needle in business are typically borne of common sense, and marketing wisdom is almost always rooted in common sense. Seth and Roy (go ahead…subscribe to both of them now, I’ll wait…) are the Deans of Common Sense, of Marketing Wisdom.
Ideas are the currency of difference makers, yet there aren’t that many new ideas. The day will be won by the person who leverages what we know works against what we want but don’t yet have. You can’t Google something that hasn’t happened yet, but we can make things happen via our ideas.
Seth will make you stop and think a couple times a day. In the best possible way. Roy will take you on a journey that frees your mind up to make a difference, especially if you’ll follow him all the way to The Rabbit Hole every Monday.
Roy and Seth are the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, not Looking Glass or Dexy’s Midnight Runners. If our goal is to make a difference, working from sources that fuel our fires is the best way to start. (Go ahead, subscribe to both of them now….I’ll wait…)
Oh. I’m done? Carry on…and make a difference today…
