“The best way to find out if you’re on the right path? Stop looking at the path.”
– Marcus Buckingham
Sounds simple, doesn’t it? So why are we so often looking down at our feet as we walk through life?
Last night, in a room of about four dozen people — cross functional but interdependent, mutually reliant but diverse in almost every way — a powerful reminder was delivered that synchs with Buckingham’s admonishment.
Story after story, some at the podium but many at the dinner tables, these passionate, brilliant people, described their transition from being focused on the path not so long ago, to being focused on the prize today.
If we’re walking alone, and we look up, it’s compelling. When we’re walking with people we love, trust, respect and rely on — and we all look up, it’s awe inspiring.
Where we focus our eyes not only determines the path we take, but the difference it makes.
