“Our disappointments in life are almost always tied to our expectations and very rarely to our circumstances.”
– Attributed to Thomas Jefferson
Job interviews. Sales pitches. First date requests. Basketball games. Lots o’ other things…
Disappointment is a part of life. It’s a part of our jobs, our relationships, our interactions.
When we’re disappointed, it’s easy to cite our circumstances. But our circumstances are simply where we find ourselves. If we’re disappointed, it’s likely because that’s not where we expected to be.
It’s not about lowering our expectations. It’s about understanding them. And preparing relentlessly to reach them. Will it hurt if we don’t? Yep. Is it the end of the world. Probably not.
When we look in the mirror, let’s make sure whoever looks back at us prepared their tail off, executed relentlessly, enjoyed the thrill of the pursuit, and learned from the outcome.
We get better every day when we take that approach. And when we get better every day, we become the best version of ourselves.
Trishia Tousignant says
‘And when we get better every day, we become the best version of ourselves.’
Well Said!
