“When you buy a vase cheap, look for the flaw. When a man offers favors, look for the motive.”
– Japanese proverb
Yikes. Sorta cynical and snarky, huh? (Good thing I’m fixin’ to ASK a favor, instead of offer one…)
First though, a heads-up.
Next week’s Daily Difference will celebrate “Lyric Week.” Using music to explore ways to make a difference, Lyric Week is a great time for you to weigh in and comment — let me know what your favorite lyrics are, or suggest a lyric that better illustrates the point, or better yet, suggest a lyric AND a point, since I sometimes appear not to have one. I digress, yet again…
But that’s not the favor.
Here’s the favor…
If you like The Daily Difference, forward it to three (or more?) friends that you think might like it, too. Ask them to subscribe. Better yet, tell them to subscribe. Remind them that it’s as easy as entering their e-mail address in the box to the right of that day’s post, and then clicking “subscribe.”
Even though I’m asking — not offering — a favor, I’ll tell you my motive. It helps the SEO scores and drives up the book advance. (It also helps spread the word about the principle upon which we operate our business, and it helps us change the conversation. But, mainly, it helps the SEO scores and drive up the book advance!) Capitalism rocks.
And speaking of capitalism, when we get to 100 new subscribers, I’ll offer one $20 Starbucks gift card for a current subscriber, and another $20 Starbucks gift card for one of the new subscribers.
See, technically, it’s more bribe than favor, huh?
Have a great weekend!

How about the lyrics for Boston’s “Don’t Look Back”. I think that song sends a few good messages.
“Don’t look back, A new day is breaking’, it’s been so long since I felt this way, I don’t mind where I get taken, the road is callin, today is the day!” Today is the day, live today. Does that fit into your thinking?
Thank you for your daily difference. It has been inspiring, educational , funny, and thought provoking.
I look forward to reading them every day. Good luck to you, your company and your family.
Jeff

Excellent thought. Fits the theme and the belief structure. When The Three Who Will Not Be Tamed heard Boston on my iPod the other day, one of them said, “Daddy, that’s sorta cool…”
