“It makes you feel like a golfer when you can maneuver the ball.”
– Jack Nicklaus, from The Greatest Game of All
“I’m the banking-est man in 27 counties.”
– Dick Heston, (August 4, 1933 – October 11, 2002) when faced with a difficult shot on the Snooker table
Dad was sort of the Jack Nicklaus of Snooker in Fairfield, IA.
He didn’t always win, but you sort of expected him to. Just like Jack.
He wasn’t brash, just as Jack wasn’t. He wasn’t over-confident, just as Jack wasn’t.
He just knew what he could do, what he could make the ball do, and what the next shot looked like even before he executed this one.
It makes you feel like a professional when you can maneuver the conversation. It makes you feel like a professional when you can get to an outcome that helps everyone. It makes you feel like a professional when the day ends in a better place than it started.
At the end of days like that, you should try to play a few holes or shoot a couple games.
Just like Jack. Just like Dad. Difference makers.
