“The wheels on the bus go ’round and ’round, all day long.”
– Lyric from the childrens’ song we all sang (sing) to our kids
But it’s not the bus.
So many want to talk about getting the right people on the bus — it’s become cliche.
The bus is irrelevant. As long as it’s running, it will take us somewhere.
The people, on the other hand, are paramount.
On Thursday, I shared a room with a dozen or so special people. People who will make a difference wherever they go, and whether they go by foot, bus, mule, car or bicycle. In the evening, Jodi and I were blessed to open our home (and the new, F-18 horsepower grill) to them. To watch them interact — with one another, with us and with The Three Who Will Not Be Tamed. To share with them. To be with them. Relaxed, yet engaged, intense yet peacefully calm — this is a pretty cool assembly of people.
Young people. Oh, a couple are of my generation, but mainly young, “Holy cow, wouldya lookit them!” kind of people.
What matters isn’t the mode of transportation that we’re using. What matters is the people we choose to travel with.
The next generation of Difference Makers stands ready. And the luckiest guy I know gets the role (and responsibility) of leading them.
