“I believe in the spirit of rock and roll,
In the eternal strength of the immortal soul
‘Cause sometimes everybody’s got to let it go
I believe in the power of love;
I believe in the sounds of Sam and Dave,
That little children should occasionally misbehave
That all that you get is all that you gave,
I believe in the power of love.”
– Lyric from “I Believe” by Cowboy Mouth (perhaps one of the two or three best touring bands on earth…just sayin’)
I’ll say it again. If you only bring one thing to the game, to the fight, to life – bring belief.
Just before this chorus kicks in, the last line of the first verse of this song is “I always find my strength inside the act of faith.” Faith and belief are inextricably connected in virtually any context, but the significance of the way Fred and the band cast them in this song is particularly telling.
The act of faith. The power of belief.
Nouns are good but verbs are where a difference gets made. The act of faith. The power of belief.
Whatever you believe in, believe in it relentlessly. Believe in it completely. Believe in it unfailingly. Believe in it faithfully.
I also believe that all that you get is all that you gave. Think about what’s been given – and then give all you have. Doing so will determine how much of a difference we make.
