“We played like three tons of buzzard puke this afternoon.”
“Gentlemen, it is better to have died a small boy than to fumble this football.”
– John Heisman, namesake of college football’s most coveted individual honor
“We didn’t tackle well today, but we made up for it by not blocking. When you ask me about our team’s execution, let me just say that I am in favor of it.”
– John McKay (1923-2001)
One need not be colorful to be a head football coach, but it must be helpful.
I love college football, even this year, when my team isn’t very, um, er, well, what’s the word I’m looking for….? Oh, yes, they’re not very GOOD.
But execution(s), buzzard puke, fumbles and all, if you have to blow three hours on something on an autumn afternoon, college football’s a pretty good place to start.
