“The person who does things that count doesn’t usually stop to count them.”
– Anonymous
Credit for our work is a fundamental “need,” I suppose. Everyone wants to feel like they’re contributing and to get the recognition they feel they warrant for their work. It’s natural, and it’s why the best leaders spend time “catching people doing something right.”
But organizations are built upon, and teams thrive by the performance of those people who just chug away, day after day, making a difference and getting things done. Things that count. Not seeking credit for them. Getting them done.
Even though they might be embarrassed by the attention, today, notice someone around you that just — gets — stuff — done! Thank them, and tell them how much you value their contribution to your world. You’ll make the kind of difference for them that they make for you.
