“The first rule of persuasion is this: you cannot take someone where you want them to go until you first meet them where they are.”

     –  Roy H. Williams, The Wizard of Ads, and a visionary you should follow

Long-time subscribers know I’m not big on rules — that I only have five of them.

In this week’s Monday Morning Memo, though, The Wizard laid out a pretty good first rule of persuasion.  It ties to yesterday’s post on the RAIN Group’s book, Insight Selling.  Connecting and Collaborating represent 2/3 of their model on professional sales — and meeting a prospect or Client where they are is the best way to connect and the only way to collaborate.

When we meet someone, we’re going to them.

It might be a Rule #5 Violation to disregard Roy’s first rule of persuasion.  Just sayin’…
