“Dad, is it a sleep-with-the-windows-open night?”

–     Harper Heston (13), the last two nights at bedtime

Yes, Harper, it has been.  Just to confirm, she went out and sat on the front porch for five minutes to confirm that it was “cool enough but not too cold.”

I love all seasonal changes, but the switch from summer to autumn is simply the best for me.

Warm, typically sunny days with cool, sleep-with-the-windows-open nights are the best.  College football.  Afternoon golf with the sun at that angle that makes the ball look really white as it careens off into the trees.  Fire pits.  Beverages by firepits.  Friends with beverages by firepits.  Cooking comfort foods to be enjoyed during college football games or by fire pits or by friends with beverages by fire pits.

Autumn is also the season when both my parents passed — but it was their favorite season, too, and that reaffirms my affection for the time.

The snow will fly soon, for those of us in the North, donchaknow.  That will be fine, but in the meantime, I’m gonna sleep with the windows open and enjoy every minute of it!

A random post, granted. Sorry if you were expecting something deeper.  (Not really, but I wanted to make the effort…)

As we head into the weekend, here’s to difference makers everywhere, windows open or not…
